Roost

Delete your account and data

Last updated 5 November 2026

You can delete your Roost account, and everything stored for your family, at any time. You don't need to contact us, and there's no waiting period. Want to keep your account? You can also delete some of your data on its own.

Have Roost Premium? Deleting your account doesn't cancel the subscription, because Google Play or the App Store bills it. Cancel it first in your Google Play or App Store account settings.

From the app (fastest)

  1. Open Roost on the parent's phone.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Delete account at the bottom.
  4. Enter your password to confirm.

Deletion is immediate and can't be undone. Any linked child phone stops reporting straight away, and its link to your account stops working.

By email

If you can't sign in (for example, you've lost your password or your phone), email us at support@roostfamily.online from the address your account uses, with the subject Delete my account. We'll confirm you own that address, then delete the account within 30 days, usually much sooner.

What is deleted

All of this is removed permanently:

  • Your account, sign-in details and profile.
  • Every child profile you added.
  • Every alert, including flagged message excerpts, check-ins, SOS alerts, and arrivals and departures with their positions.
  • All screen-time and activity history, and the lists of apps on your child's phones.
  • Your child's latest location, and any location history.
  • Internet filter totals and the list of recently blocked sites.
  • Your rules and settings: schedules, limits, filters, places, and your home network filter choice.
  • Your device code (stored only as a hash), and any unused pairing codes.
  • Linked phone records and the notification tokens for your phones.
  • Our record of your subscription. The purchase itself stays in your Google Play or App Store account.

Nothing is kept after deletion. There's no archived copy, no anonymised leftover, and no grace period to restore the account from. Encrypted infrastructure backups are cycled out within 90 days and are never used to bring a deleted account back.

Crash reports aren't linked to your account; they are deleted automatically after 90 days.

Delete some of your data, and keep your account

In Roost on the parent's phone you can remove particular data at any time. Each of these is permanent.

  • A child, and everything kept for them: open the child's profile from Family and tap the bin icon (Remove profile). This unlinks their phone, which then stops monitoring, and deletes their profile, settings, alerts, screen-time and activity history, and location.
  • An alert: open it from Alerts and tap the bin icon (Delete alert). This removes the alert, its message excerpt and any position saved with it.
  • A linked phone and its location: go to Activity, tap the card showing the phone's status, then tap Remove next to the phone. This removes that phone's record: its latest location, location history, battery level, permission status and notification token, and its weekly insights. The phone stops reporting.
  • Location or location history: open your child's location, tap ⋮, then Turn off location or Stop keeping location history. Your child's phone deletes its latest position and history the next time it connects. If that phone is switched off for good or Roost has been removed from it, remove the phone as above instead.
  • A saved place: open Places, choose the place and tap the bin icon (Remove place).
  • Watchwords and sites you added: remove each one with the × next to it, on your child's Watchwords or internet filter screen.

Screen-time and activity history for a child you are keeping, and alerts in bulk, can't yet be removed from inside the app. To have any of your data deleted without closing your account, email us at support@roostfamily.online from the address your account uses with the subject Delete some of my data, and say what you'd like removed. We'll confirm you own that address, then delete it within 30 days. Internet filter totals cover only the last 7 days and drop off on their own.

Whatever you delete is removed from our live systems straight away, and from encrypted backups within 90 days.

Removing Roost from your child's phone

Deleting your account stops all reporting, but doesn't uninstall the app from your child's phone. To remove it there:

  1. If uninstall protection is on, turn it off first: open the phone's Settings, search for Device admin apps, choose Roost and turn it off.
  2. Uninstall Roost like any other app.

Any message text still waiting on that phone is erased when Roost is uninstalled.
